My son and daughter both had travel soccer tournaments in Columbus, Ohio this weekend. As a parent, I always have to remind myself that win or lose; my children are learning valuable skills and lessons that will prove to help them become successful in todays world. While I am ecstatic when their teams win or when my children score a goal, I also appreciate the opportunity to help them deal with a loss and teach them a life lesson when the game is lost or they weren't able to play to the best of their ability. If everything went perfect or smoothly in their childhood, how could I possibly send them off to face college without knowing they had the ability to deal with loss or "bad" situations? I was so proud of how they handled themselves on and off the field when they both lost a game this weekend that I found myself congratulating them on their behavior. They demonstrated respectfulness and humility that I haven't seen in people twice their age. I believe this is in large part due to good coaches, teachers, parents and their own innocent, inherent goodness. Thank God for organized sports and the people dedicated to the players!

Funny story time
A few years ago, our oldest went to Tennessee for church
camp. We didn't like her going that far without us, so we
stayed at a hotel close by. My husband and I decide this
was a great opportunity to receive matching tattoos on our backs with three feathers signifying our three children.
We soon learn later in the night that our daughter had been scolded and told to change her t-shirt by one of the prudish counselors during evening service. Apparently, the older woman felt our daughter should wear a few shirts to hide the fact that she was generously endowed at a young age. Needless to say, we did not mention the tattoos to her until much later.
